Sargassum Weed
Sighting of a brown substance which has the resemblance of oil off the coast of Tobago and the Atlantic is that of Sargassum Weed/grass. Sargassum Weed got it’s name from Portuguese Sailors who came upon this seaweed in the Sargasso sea. This is a type of seaweed usually found throughout tropical areas of the world.
We are reassuring members of the public that there is no oil present in our waters, but that of seaweed known as Sargassum Weed/grass.
