TEMA’S SCHOOL CARAVAN CAMPAIGN

The Tobago Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) kicked off the initial stages of the TEMA School Caravan on Friday 13th November 2015 with a visit to the Tablepiece Government Primary School. TEMA’s Director Mr. Allan Stewart had a exciting and productive meeting with the teachers of the school to discuss the implementation of an Emergency Management and Recovery Plan at the school. Key to this discussion was Emergency Risk Management for the school, and a Disaster Management System, elements of which are risk prevention, mitigation, response, recovery and rehabilitation.

The school was encouraged to present a first draft of an Emergency Response Management and Recovery plan by the end of January, and staffs of Tablepiece Government Primary School were eager to work with TEMA to achieve their safety objectives.

The meeting was an energizing beginning to TEMA’s school caravan campaign wherein we educate schools about the Emergency Management and Recovery Plan, and guide them on its implementation in their schools.

It is our hope at TEMA that the Caravan will lead to greater awareness and readiness among schools in Tobago. This, we believe will encourage a culture of Disaster Risk Reduction and boost greater participation of the National Emergency Exercise Day (N.E.E.D).
